Sumac Labneh Sourdough Toast
Sumac Labneh Sourdough Toast is a delightful and flavourful dish that combines the tanginess of labneh with the earthy, citrusy notes of sumac, all served on crispy, toasted sourdough. It’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a light snack!
Ingredients:
2 slices sourdough bread (or more, depending on servings)
1/2 cup labneh (strained yogurt)
1 teaspoon ground sumac (plus extra for sprinkling)
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
A pinch of salt (optional, to taste)
Fresh herbs (such as parsley, mint, or dill), chopped, for garnish
Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)
Instructions:
Toast the Sourdough:
Toast the sourdough bread slices in a toaster, until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides.
Prepare the Labneh Topping:
In a small bowl, mix the labneh with the olive oil and ground sumac until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust the salt if desired.
Assemble the Toast:
Spread a generous layer of the labneh mixture onto each slice of toasted sourdough.
Garnish:
Drizzle a little more olive oil over the top of the labneh. Sprinkle with extra sumac for a burst of tangy flavour and some freshly ground black pepper. Top with freshly chopped herbs like parsley, mint, or dill for added freshness and colour.
Serve:
Serve immediately with a wedge of lemon on the side for a little extra zing, if desired. You can also add some extra toppings like sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, or olives for variety.
Serving Suggestions:
This dish is perfect for breakfast or brunch on its own, or you can pair it with a side of shakshuka, sautéed greens, or a simple salad with cucumber and tomatoes.
If you want to make it heartier, try adding avocado slices or a soft-boiled egg on top.
Optional Add-ins:
Pomegranate seeds: For a pop of sweetness and crunch, sprinkle a few pomegranate seeds on top.
Za’atar: For a more herbal and earthy twist, dust some za’atar seasoning over the labneh before serving.
This Sumac Labneh Sourdough Toast is simple but bursting with flavour, combining the richness of labneh, the tang of sumac, and the crunch of toasted sourdough. Enjoy!
