Zatar & Halloum Manakeesh
Zatar and Halloumi Manakeesh
A ‘Manakeesh’ is a middle eastern pizza, this recipe is a cheat’s version and is topped with Zatar and Halloumi. It's easy to make and serves as a great snack, appetizer, or even a light meal.
Ingredients:
Store bought naan bread
200g (7 oz) halloumi cheese, sliced or grated
2 tablespoons zatar
1-2 tablespoons olive oil (for drizzling)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F). Place a baking stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat up while the dough rises.
2. Assemble the Manakeesh
Arrange the sliced halloumi cheese evenly over the top of the naan/flatbread and then sprinkle generously with zatar
Lightly drizzle olive oil over the surface of each flatbread
5. Bake the Manakeesh
Transfer the prepared flatbreads to the preheated baking stone or baking sheet in the oven.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the flatbread are golden and crispy and the halloumi has melted and slightly browned.
Keep an eye on the flatbread as it bakes, as oven temperatures can vary and you want to ensure the halloumi doesn't burn.
6. Serve
Remove the Zatar and Halloumi Manakeesh from the oven. Optionally, drizzle with a little more olive oil for extra richness.
Slice and serve hot!
Tips:
Halloumi Cheese: Halloumi can be quite salty, so you may want to rinse it under cold water before slicing if you want to reduce the saltiness. Alternatively, you can also use a different cheese like mozzarella or feta if you prefer a milder flavour.
Extra Toppings: You can add additional toppings like sliced tomatoes, olives, or roasted vegetables to create a more substantial dish.
