Zatar Toast
Za'atar Buttered Sourdough Toast
This recipe takes a simple slice of sourdough bread and transforms it into a flavourful, aromatic treat. The combination of warm, crispy toast, creamy butter, and the earthy, tangy zatar creates a perfect mid-morning snack or light breakfast.
Ingredients:
1 slice sourdough bread
1 tablespoon unsalted butter (or more, depending on your preference)
Generous pinch of Baity Palestinian Zatar
Olive oil (optional, for extra richness)
Sea salt (optional, to taste)
Instructions:
Toast the Sourdough on both sides
Butter the Toast
As soon as the sourdough is toasted to your liking, spread the butter generously on the hot bread while it's still warm so it melts evenly.
If you prefer extra richness, you can drizzle a little olive oil over the top of the buttered toast.
Sprinkle with Zatar
Once the toast is buttered, sprinkle a teaspoon or two of zatar evenly across the surface of the bread. The heat from the toast will release the flavors of the herbs and sesame seeds, adding a lovely aroma and depth of flavor.
Optional Finishing Touches
If you like, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top to enhance the flavours
Serve and Enjoy!
Slice the toast if you want smaller pieces, or enjoy it whole. This za'atar buttered sourdough toast pairs wonderfully with eggs, hummus, or a simple side salad.
